Provena Saint Joseph Hospital CEO Honored as Top Physician Leader

CHICAGO- ELGIN—Eugene J. McMahon, MD, MBA, FACP, President and CEO of Provena Saint Joseph Hospital, Elgin, Il was named to 100 Physician Leaders of Hospitals and Health Systems, which features some of the top physician leaders in healthcare published by Becker's Hospital Review.
Dr. McMahon, a board-certified pathologist and surgeon is an accomplished physician executive with more than 20 years progressive leadership experience. He was named President and CEO of Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in March, 2011 after having served as CMO for a year. A seasoned clinician, Dr. McMahon is a board-certified pathologist, and began his pathology practice in 1994 in Milwaukee. His experience includes leading a large Pathology and Laboratory Medicine practice and serving on several medical staffs in the Milwaukee area. Licensed to practice medicine in Illinois, Dr. McMahon is also a board-certified physician and surgeon in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Wisconsin.
Holding extensive academic credentials, Dr. McMahon graduated cum laude from College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Massachusetts, with a Bachelors Degree in economics and pre-medicine, before earning his MD from Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington, D.C. Following an internship at Columbia University, New York, he completed a residency in pathology and laboratory medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. McMahon earned a Masters of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois.
He previously served as CMO of Southcoast Hospitals Group in Fall River, MA, and vice president of medical affairs at St. Francis Hospital/Covenant Healthcare in Milwaukee.
