School District U-46 today released a revised proposed calendar for the 2013-2014 school year, which was crafted in response to feedback from parents, students, teachers, and community members.  During the January 28th Board of Education meeting, the board delayed a vote on the first proposed calendar in an effort to effectively communicate the proposed changes and receive input from the U-46 community.

The proposed calendar revisions include:
•        Beginning school on August 19, instead of August 14, and
•        Ending the school year on May 27 instead of May 21

The proposed calendar will maintain:
•        Holding school on Veterans Day,
•        Ending first semester prior to winter break, and
•        Having students attend school on the Monday and Tuesday prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.

“I am truly grateful for the comments we received regarding the proposed calendar,” said Dr. José M. Torres.  “The revisions we made reflect our commitment to working together and to making decisions that will serve the best interests of our entire U-46 family.”

The Board of Education is expected to vote on this revised calendar at their February 25 meeting.   To view the proposed calendar, please click here.
